We will be going to the Mustang water slides on Saturday the 19th. The exact time is still being worked on, but the scouts that attend will be paid for. More information for the Mustang Water slides will be in a follow up email. Families will be responsible for any siblings and adults.

The pack will be supplying Tri Tip Sandwiches on Saturday night for dinner and we ask for each family bring something to share for a pot luck style meal. Pack will be providing Smores on Saturday night as well.

In addition to the water slides there will be fishing and other activities during the trip.

Sunday March 25th is our 2012 Blue and Gold Ceremony / Pack Meeting. It will be held at Ralph Dunlap school from 3:00-5:00pm. Each den will be doing a skit and award presentations. In addition BBQ prizes will be handed out as well. A slide show and meal will be provided during the event. The pack will be providing the main entree for the meal, but need each family to assist by bringing a dish. Each den level is in charge of one category.

This is a fantastic event with scouts earning rank awards and a chance to say fairwell to our Webelos II scouts. This is an event you won’t want to miss.

An overnight trip to the USS Hornet in Alameda, Ca. is fast approaching.  Outstanding balances will be due March 24th.   Each person signed up will be receiving a follow up email or phone call with your exact outstanding balance.

The Live-Aboard Program is conducted in a fun-spirited, naval organization manner: falling in, stowing your gear, and following orders are all part of this unique and memorable experience.

The cost of the overnight program is $60 per person regardless of age. This price includes museum admission, flight simulator ride, evening programs, dinner, breakfast, overnight accommodations, patches for children and certificates for all.

Additional USS Hornet information:

A 1:1 adult to child ratio is expected in groups with children ages 5–9.  At least one adult for every six youths for children over 10 years old.  No children under 5 are permitted.

The berthing compartments are equipped with canvas covered “racks” with foam mattresses. Each person should bring a pillow, sleeping bag, extra blanket in cold weather

Due to the historical nature of the ship, handicap access is extremely limited.

We are to meet on the pier at the same time 4pm.  For check-in briefing and safety drill.  No individuals will be allowed on board after 6:00 pm.  Overnight gear is not allowed on the ship before 5:00 pm and private vehicles are not allowed on the pier. Parking is available and participants are expected to carry sleeping bags and other gear on board at the appointed time.

ITINERARY

Day 1 Saturday

1600 (4:00pm)

Group Leaders meet your group on the pier with your gear. Take a head count and be prepared to advise the Hornet crew of any changes such as no-shows, late arrivals, etc.

1615 (4:15pm)

Hornet Crewmembers will meet with Group Leaders to get final count, brief your group on the evening activities, and take questions.

1705 (5:05pm)

Begin boarding with overnight gear.

1730-1745 (5:30-6:00pm)

Introductions, Orientation, Ship Rules.

1745-1800 (5:45-6:00pm)

Set up quarters, stow gear in berthing areas.

1800-1830 (6:00-6:30pm)

Mandatory Fire/Safety Drill. (Weekday arrivals will set up quarters and have the emergency evacuation drill after dinner)

1830-1930 (6:30-7:30pm)

Chow time begins (dinner). Junior crew organized into serving and clean-up teams.

1930-2230 (7:30-10:30pm)

Evening program includes self-guided tours: CIC, Engine Room, Bridge, Catapult, Brig areas, Flight Simulator & other activities.

2300 (11:00pm)

Lights out. Retire to quarters for the night. For those assigned Night Watch, first shift begins.

Day 2 – Sunday

Reveille. (Rise & Shine)

Sundays only – Church service. Live-Aboard crewmembers are welcome to attend a non-denominational service in our Chapel.

Cruise on San Francisco Bay to Alcatraz Island and the infamous and notorious former federal prison, which was home to the likes of Al Capone, George “Machine Gun” Kelley, and Robert “The Birdman” Stroud. This trip includes the audio-guided cell block tour.

Enjoy an orientation video with historical footage, self-guided walks, and exhibits and Ranger-interpretive talks on topics such as “Famous Escapes.” Also featured is an award-winning audio tour in the prison cell house with actual interviews of former guards and inmates

These fundraiser are how the pack is able to offer the program that we do on an annual basis.

USS Hornet – Scout paid by pack requirements

Listed below are how many BBQ tickets that a scout needs to sell in order for the USS Hornet trip to be paid for by the pack.

Sold between $400 – $599 in Popcorn ▶ Need to sell 40 BBQ tickets
Sold between $250 – $399 in Popcorn ▶ Need to sell 60 BBQ tickets

Money and/or remaining tickets can be turned in at the CVS shopping center March 2nd, Friday before the BBQ, between 6:30pm and 9:00pm. We will be in the last row in the parking lot between the 76 gas station and the donut shop. If you can not make it that night, please make arrangements earlier in the week with myself or your den leader.

The 2012 Live Oak District Pinewood Derby Championships are coming on March 3, 2012, at the Santa Maria Town Center East mall (lower level, by Red Robin). Registration begins at 9:00AM.

First, second and third place winners for speed and show from each Den of each Cub Scout Pack in the District are eligible to compete at the District Championships. Packs running a family class may send those winners to District too! And best of all, it’s FREE!

Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place for speed and show in each class! A District Grand Champion trophy will be awarded
for overall speed and show winners as well!

Plus, each participant will receive a patch! See the race day schedule and rules on the reverse of this page for more info

The race is the same date as our BBQ. Your dens will be contacting you for shifts to work, and if you are going to be at the district derby, we will move your shifts around to accomidate the race.

Pinewood Derby Official Pack 93 Race

The Pack 93’s offical race is January 21st. The Pack race will be held at Joe Nightingale School. We will begin checking in cars at 8:30 am and would like to have this completed by 9:00 am. The plan is to start racing at 9:30 am. There will be donuts for sale in the morning, and we will be offering pizza and sodas for sale at lunch. Remember to invite all your family members to cheer you on. Also, any parents or siblings that want to build a car we will hold extra races after the scouts have finished.

Pinewood Derby & Workshops

January should be renamed to Pinewood Derby Month.  We have 2 workshops planned for all to come and build and perfect their pinewood derby cars.  There is no set schedule and those that want to build their cars at home can do so.

Workshops will be held on two Saturdays January 7th from 10am – 4pm and on  January 14th from 10am – 4pm.  Pack 93’s pinewood derby race will be held on Saturday January 21st.

The workshop this weekend has been moved and will be held at Cub Master Paul’s house.

Santa was kind enough to leave us a bag full of Pinewood Derby cars for all the scouts who were unable to attend the December pack meeting.  We will have them at the Pinewood Derby Workshops, but if you would like one before then, please reply to this email and make arrangements.

The Orcutt Parade is this Saturday at noon. See the map below for the aproximate location for the float line up.  Scouts should be there in uniform around 11:30am.  The float will stop near what used to be May Grisham Elementary school.  All scouts will will remain under a leader’s supervision until a parent or guardian picks them up.
