			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Our May campout is scheduled for Friday Evening, May 18th, through Sunday morning, May 20th, at Lake Lopez. We are in group site Campobello and it can accomodate 24 vehicles. First 15 are free, additional 9 vehicles are extra. The pack will reimburse those who need to pay for bringing in extra vehicles. There are picnic tables, fire pit and BBQ, NO Hookups for RVs, but RVs are welcome. The cost of the camping trip will be $5/person. This will help cover the cost of food and help us reimburse the extra vehicles.</p>

<p>We will be going to the Mustang water slides on Saturday the 19th. The exact time is still being worked on, but the scouts that attend will be paid for. More information for the Mustang Water slides will be in a follow up email. Families will be responsible for any siblings and adults.</p>
<p>Possible Additional Costs<br />
● Boats are $10/day<br />
● Pets are $3.50/day (MUST be on a leash if in the group site)</p>
<p>The pack will be supplying Tri Tip Sandwiches on Saturday night for dinner and we ask for each family bring something to share for a pot luck style meal. Pack will be providing Smores on Saturday night as well.</p>
<p>In addition to the water slides there will be fishing and other activities during the trip.</p>

<p>The Live-Aboard Program is conducted in a fun-spirited, naval organization manner: falling in, stowing your gear, and following orders are all part of this unique and memorable experience.</p>
<p>The cost of the overnight program is $60 per person regardless of age. This price includes museum admission, flight simulator ride, evening programs, dinner, breakfast, overnight accommodations, patches for children and certificates for all.</p>

<p><strong>Additional USS Hornet information:</strong></p>
<p>A 1:1 adult to child ratio is expected in groups with children ages 5–9.  At least one adult for every six youths for children over 10 years old.  No children under 5 are permitted.</p>
<p>The berthing compartments are equipped with canvas covered “racks” with foam mattresses. Each person should bring a pillow, sleeping bag, extra blanket in cold weather</p>
<p>Due to the historical nature of the ship, handicap access is extremely limited.</p>
<p>We are to meet on the pier at the same time 4pm.  For check-in briefing and safety drill.  No individuals will be allowed on board after 6:00 pm.  Overnight gear is not allowed on the ship before 5:00 pm and private vehicles are not allowed on the pier. Parking is available and participants are expected to carry sleeping bags and other gear on board at the appointed time.</p>
<p><strong>ITINERARY</strong></p>
<p><strong>Day 1 Saturday</strong></p>
<p>1600 (4:00pm)</p>
<p>Group Leaders meet your group on the pier with your gear. Take a head count and be prepared to advise the Hornet crew of any changes such as no-shows, late arrivals, etc.</p>
<p>1615 (4:15pm)</p>
<p>Hornet Crewmembers will meet with Group Leaders to get final count, brief your group on the evening activities, and take questions.</p>
<p>1705 (5:05pm)</p>
<p>Begin boarding with overnight gear.</p>
<p>1730-1745 (5:30-6:00pm)</p>
<p>Introductions, Orientation, Ship Rules.</p>
<p>1745-1800 (5:45-6:00pm)</p>
<p>Set up quarters, stow gear in berthing areas.</p>
<p>1800-1830 (6:00-6:30pm)</p>
<p>Mandatory Fire/Safety Drill. (Weekday arrivals will set up quarters and have the emergency evacuation drill after dinner)</p>
<p>1830-1930 (6:30-7:30pm)</p>
<p>Chow time begins (dinner). Junior crew organized into serving and clean-up teams.</p>
<p>1930-2230 (7:30-10:30pm)</p>
<p>Evening program includes self-guided tours: CIC, Engine Room, Bridge, Catapult, Brig areas, Flight Simulator &amp; other activities.</p>

<p>Lights out. Retire to quarters for the night. For those assigned Night Watch, first shift begins.</p>

<p>Pack belongings, clean berthing quarters, and receive bunk inspection.</p>
<p>0730-0830 (7:30-8:30am)</p>
<p>Breakfast. Junior crew organized into serving and clean-up teams.</p>
<p>0845-0930 (8:45-9:30am)</p>
<p>Muster out ceremony begins with presenting Colors. Junior Crew receives certificate and patch.</p>
<p>0930 (9:30am)</p>
<p>Ship’s Store and Flight Simulator opens. (10:00am on weekdays)</p>
<p>1000 (10:00am)</p>
<p>Museum opens – Participants are welcome to stay aboard to continue tours of the ship.</p>

<p>Sundays only – Church service. Live-Aboard crewmembers are welcome to attend a non-denominational service in our Chapel.</p>

<p>Cruise on San Francisco Bay to Alcatraz Island and the infamous and notorious former federal prison, which was home to the likes of Al Capone, George &#8220;Machine Gun&#8221; Kelley, and Robert &#8220;The Birdman&#8221; Stroud. This trip includes the audio-guided cell block tour.</p>
<p>Enjoy an orientation video with historical footage, self-guided walks, and exhibits and Ranger-interpretive talks on topics such as &#8220;Famous Escapes.&#8221; Also featured is an award-winning audio tour in the prison cell house with actual interviews of former guards and inmates</p>

<p>The 2012 Live Oak District Pinewood Derby Championships are coming on March 3, 2012, at the Santa Maria Town Center East mall (lower level, by Red Robin). Registration begins at 9:00AM.</p>
<p>First, second and third place winners for speed and show from each Den of each Cub Scout Pack in the District are eligible to compete at the District Championships. Packs running a family class may send those winners to District too! And best of all, it’s FREE!</p>
<p><strong>Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place for speed and show in each class! A District Grand Champion trophy will be awarded</strong><br />
<strong>for overall speed and show winners as well!</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: center;">Please leave your non-perishable donations in a plastic or paper bag atyour door by 9:00 am Saturday morning for pick-up.Any canned/bagged/boxed food:</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Especially Peanut Butter, canned food such as soups, fruit, tuna, meats,vegetables, or dry food such as bags/boxes of rice, beans or cereal (Please do not include glass containers, frozen or perishable foods)</p>

<p><strong>Pinewood Derby Official Pack 93 Race</strong></p>
<p>The Pack 93’s offical race is January 21st. The Pack race will be held at Joe Nightingale School. We will begin checking in cars at 8:30 am and would like to have this completed by 9:00 am. The plan is to start racing at 9:30 am. There will be donuts for sale in the morning, and we will be offering pizza and sodas for sale at lunch. Remember to invite all your family members to cheer you on. Also, any parents or siblings that want to build a car we will hold extra races after the scouts have finished.</p>

<p><strong>P</strong><strong>inewood Derby &amp; Workshops</strong></p>
<p>January should be renamed to Pinewood Derby Month.  We have 2 workshops planned for all to come and build and perfect their pinewood derby cars.  There is no set schedule and those that want to build their cars at home can do so.</p>
<p>Workshops will be held on two Saturdays January 7th from 10am &#8211; 4pm and on  January 14th from 10am &#8211; 4pm.  Pack 93’s pinewood derby race will be held on Saturday January 21st.</p>
<p><strong>The workshop this weekend has been moved and will be held at Cub Master Paul’s house.</strong></p>
<p>Santa was kind enough to leave us a bag full of Pinewood Derby cars for all the scouts who were unable to attend the December pack meeting.  We will have them at the Pinewood Derby Workshops, but if you would like one before then, please reply to this email and make arrangements.</p>
